McHenry
County Pet Sitters
At a few hundred dollars a visit, many people have a hard time
taking all of their dogs and cats to the veterinarian each year. By
the same token, those who understand the dilemma between new shoes
and Fluffy’s anesthesia for the teeth cleaning, will certainly
recognize the internal debate about taking a vacation and boarding
the dogs, versus staying home and keeping from traumatizing your
pets.
The best answer is almost always the same…a reliable pet sitter.
We’re always happier when we care for our pets, and rarely enjoy our
new shoes or vacation when we’re worried about them. Plus, by
February, all residents of Northern Illinois are in dire need of a
vacation By the same token, despite the fact that our dogs (and some
cats) will miss us, our pets are always a whole lot better off if
they get to remain in their homes.
Boarding dogs and cats normally means the vast majority of the day
is spent in a cage. The facilities that offer extensive activity
throughout the day are normally extremely expensive, and even then,
your pet is going to spend every night locked up in a cage.
Pet sitters are almost always the most cost effective and pet
friendly way to take a guilt free vacation. Be sure that your pet
sitter is insured and bonded, that you spend some time observing
your pets with the sitter, and that you provide very particular
instructions.
There are a small number of reliable pet sitting services that might
fit the bill in McHenry County. Crystal Lake, McHenry, Cary and
Woodstock residents have the fewest choices, while Lake and Kane
Counties have a few more options. Be sure to look for a pet sitter
at least 30 days before your vacation. Pet Sitters in Northern
Illinois tend to be over-booked and scheduled far in advance.
Dog walkers keep busy in areas where busy singles and two-income
families have to leave dogs home alone for eight or more hours each
day. Doggy day-care
Old-school boarding facilities that cage dogs while their owners
took vacation are logically on the wane. Those who pay up to $500 a
week to care for their pets while their away expect that their dogs
will be fed, exercised, and kept happy. Doggy day-care facilities
are becoming more ornate and expensive.
